Brace yourself, folks, because the upcoming snowstorm in the UK is about to get even more intense!
The latest forecasts are predicting a major snow event, with temperatures dropping to a frigid -6°C and a whopping 10 inches of snow expected to blanket certain regions.
According to WX Charts, central and northern Scotland, as well as northern England, are in the firing line on January 22nd. The maps and charts are painting a picture of a winter wonderland, with bright white, grey, and light blue hues indicating an impending snowstorm.
Scotland could see up to 30cm of snow, while northern England is looking at around 14-15cm. And it's not just the snow we need to worry about; the lowest temperatures are also expected north of the border, dipping down to -6°C.
But here's where it gets controversial... while some areas are bracing for a significant snowfall, others are facing a different kind of challenge. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for ice and rain this week, with the south-west of England at risk of flooding.
Just days after Storm Goretti caused travel chaos and widespread disruption, households in Birmingham and other parts of England are preparing for another round of extreme weather.
Dan Holley, the Met Office's Deputy Chief Meteorologist, warns: "A deepening area of low pressure will move north-east across the UK on Thursday, bringing heavy rain and potentially strong winds. The exact path of the low is still uncertain, so it's important to stay updated as the week progresses and we get more precise details."
A Yellow warning for rain has been issued for southern England, southeast Wales, and parts of the Midlands, with 20-40mm of rain expected widely. However, some areas could see up to 70mm, particularly in southwest England.
And this is the part most people miss... there's also a chance of transient snow over higher ground in the north and west as the precipitation meets colder air on the northern and western flanks of the low-pressure system.
So, while some of us might be dreaming of a white Christmas, others are facing the reality of potential flooding and travel disruptions. It's a reminder that Mother Nature can be both beautiful and unpredictable.
