Unstoppable! Nebraska's men's basketball team continues its dominant streak, crushing Northwestern and maintaining their perfect record.
The No. 8 Nebraska Huskers showcased their prowess at Northwestern's Welsh-Ryan Arena, securing a decisive 77-58 victory. This win not only keeps their undefeated status intact but also extends their impressive winning streak. The Huskers now boast an outstanding 18-0 overall record and a flawless 7-0 in the Big Ten Conference, while Northwestern falls to 8-10 overall and 0-7 in the conference.
Nebraska's remarkable winning streak, currently the longest in the nation, has reached an astounding 22 games.
The game's initial stages saw a back-and-forth battle with seven lead changes. However, Nebraska gradually seized control. A layup by Braden Frager and a four-point play completed by Pryce Sandfort just before the under-8 media timeout propelled the Huskers to a five-point lead at halftime.
After the break, Northwestern briefly ignited with a three-pointer, but Nebraska responded with a 7-0 run. The lead swelled to double digits with 15:44 remaining in the game and eventually approached 20 points on several occasions.
Nebraska's shooting efficiency was notable, hitting 50.9% of their shots, including 11 out of 26 three-pointers. Northwestern managed 42.6% from the field, with 5 out of 14 from beyond the arc.
Following their combined performance of seven three-pointers against Oregon, Frager and Sandfort replicated their success, making seven against Northwestern. The dynamic duo contributed a total of 42 points, with Sandfort scoring 22 points, including five three-pointers.
Interestingly, the nation's leading scorer, Nick Martinelli, put up 22 points against the Huskers, shooting 9-for-20 and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.
Nebraska is set to return home to face Washington on Wednesday. The game will tip off at Pinnacle Bank Arena at 8 p.m. CST and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
