Unveiling the Stigma: How a Podcast is Changing the Game for Mental Health in Cambridgeshire
Uncover the power of storytelling in breaking down mental health barriers.
In a bold move to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health, a new podcast in Cambridgeshire is making waves. The first episode features Gary Clarke, a former prison officer turned mental health advocate, and Allan Hughes, the co-production lead at CPSL Mind. Together, they shed light on the importance of supporting fathers' mental well-being, a topic often overlooked.
Both mental health champions are dedicated to assisting fathers through CPSL Mind's perinatal services, including the Andy's Man Club in Peterborough. Clarke, in his role as a Perinatal Project Dads Worker, is now reaching out to dads across Cambridgeshire. He emphasizes, 'Life can be challenging, and men often feel the pressure to provide, but we're here to break that taboo.'
'Mental health is about embracing your true self and not living up to others' expectations,' Clarke adds. 'It's about being the best version of yourself.'
Hughes shares, 'These conversations are raw, real, and timely. We're honored to collaborate with CPSL Mind to make mental health support more accessible.'
The Side by Side podcast will be available on CPSL Mind's YouTube channel, with future episodes exploring youth mental health and other local initiatives. The team will also be at Cambridge United Football Club on February 14th, supported by the Cambridge United Foundation, showcasing their ongoing commitment to community mental health.
But here's where it gets thought-provoking. While the podcast aims to educate and inspire, it also invites listeners to consider a controversial perspective: What if society's expectations of men contribute to mental health issues? Could breaking free from these expectations be a powerful step towards healing? We encourage you to share your thoughts in the comments. How do you think we can collectively support men's mental well-being in our community?
